Apple -- Becoming a Telco?

Reports are in that Apple may bid for rights to the wireless spectrum auctioned by the FCC -- a move which certainly would indicate that Apple is interested in becoming a telco itself, rather than rely upon others (currently AT&T) to provide wireless services for its iPhone. Now, Apple is famous for stoking the rumour mill (and these reports smell of conjecture). Nonetheless, such a move by Apple would be consistent with past behavior -- bottom line: Apple does not like to be dependent upon others.

Separately, Apple reported that it has sold its 1 millionth iPhone -- after just recently dramatically decreasing the iPhone's price from $599 to $399.
