Apple Out-Muscles Amazon in U.S. Music Sales -- Becoming #3 Retailer

Apple's iTunes digital music store has just surpassed Amazon in overall U.S. music sales, becoming the third largest U.S. music retailer with 10% market share (according to the NPD Group). This is significant because Apple's music sales are all digital, whereas Amazon's sales to date have been all physical CD sales (although that will change later this year when Amazon opens its own digital music store).

Wal-Mart continues to be the U.S. market leader in music sales, with 15.8% share -- followed by Best Buy with 13.8% share.
